I LOVE getting to travel, so when Jessica and Preston changed their wedding plans to an intimate Hawaiian getaway in late September, I was pretty excited they chose to bring me along with them.
Jess and Preston fell in love over delicious food and great wine (they both work in the wine industry in Santa Cruz). Susan, who has known Jessica since she was in elementary school, first introduced them, and then served as officiant at the ceremony! How cool is that?
These two have an understanding; they don’t try and change each other, and they love each other for who they really are. They are deeply rooted in their mutual love of life, and they are truly best friends. It’s an inspiring thing to witness.
Their DIY tropical wedding day (I painted pineapples and took a machete into the jungle to help with decor!) was hosted on a private beach in Captain Cook, near Kona, Hawaii. The beach where the wedding ceremony was held belongs to a friend of the groom’s family. I arrived a little in advance of the big day to help the bridal party clear and clean the space before the wedding; everyone really stepped up and made it happen. Preston was even raking the morning of his own wedding.
The entire weekend was an adventure, and that’s how Jess and Preston look at life together, even in the quietest of moments. They always kept me laughing and trusted me to create art in commemoration of their wedding,
We had stunning views of the sea and some pretty epic lava formations for bride and groom portraits. It was a destination wedding photographer’s dream come true, not to mention I simply ADORE Jess and Preston. They treated me like “ohana” and I felt so lucky to experience it all with them. I cried at least three times, and I could not have been more humbled by their love. It was an incredible honor to be part of their stunning Hawaiian wedding day.
