What do you get when you combine a design-crazy wedding photographer (that’s me!), a two-year engagement, and the complications of a global pandemic halfway through wedding planning? Well, we’re about to show you…
My now-husband Jeremy chose our wedding date, April 3, 2021, for its memorable abbreviation (4-3-21) and we spent the first half of our engagement planning a Riata Ranch Santa Margarita wedding for about 100 guests. But three weeks after sending our “save the dates,” COVID-19 added new, unexpected dimensions of wedding stress (not just for me and Jeremy, but for Anna Delores clients, too!).
After months of uncertainty, we ultimately made the decision to downsize to just 20 of our closest family members and friends. We kept our original date, venue, and design, and we were able to move forward with the help of our incredible wedding planner, Erika, and the support of the rest of our professional team.
Our color palette of dusty French blue, racing green, and black was accented by pops of pale yellow in Coco Rose Design’s floral arrangements. Christy from Lazy Creative Designs customized every piece of stationery, from the letterpress invitation suite to the grommet-accented menus and place cards.
The escort display was a special nod to our New Orleans engagement: we affixed vintage musical instruments and laser-cut lettering of the Cajun French phrase “laissez les bons temps rouler” (“let the good times roll”) to a custom backdrop by Array Creative Design.
My black wedding dress by Sottero and Midgley was the first gown I tried on. I fell in love, but my mom and I kept shopping for a few more weeks, just in case I decided I wanted to go more traditional and wear white. But I couldn’t get the black Zander gown out of my head, and Jeremy loved it, too, so I went for it — I was excited to wear something so different from anything I’d seen before. Sara Rothan in Los Angeles did the most incredible alterations to make sure the dress fit me perfectly, and I’m elated with how comfortable it was all day long!
